There are several reasons why one might want to rent a camper, and there are several kinds of campers one can rent. With over 130 rental centers across the U.S. and Canada, you aren't far away from a Cruise America rental location. Cruise America offers Class C RVs for rent. Don't know the differences between types of RVs? Here are a few of the more common types of campers, and a brief explanation of some of their characteristics:
Camper Shell – This type of camper is mounted on the bed of a pickup truck. They vary in size, but none of them provide very much room for luxury. They are not designed to be used with multiple travelers. It would be a good example of the adage that two’s company, three’s a crowd!
Folding Camper Trailers – These are very small, lightweight trailers that are towed behind a vehicle. They can be popped up once the vehicle is stopped. This type of camper is basically like a tent on wheels.
Travel Trailer – This is the type of trailer that can be pulled behind a vehicle. They attach to a trailer hitch and they range from about 10 to 35 feet. They sometimes have pullouts that expand the amount of room inside, once the trailer is parked.
Fifth-Wheel Trailer – These trailers are larger than the regular travel trailer versions. The upper half of the front of the trailer extends over the back of the truck that is towing it, and is connected by a “gooseneck” hitch. The mount receptacle is usually in the center of the bed of a pickup truck, and the hitch pivots as the truck turns. These trailers have a lot of room, and offer many amenities. They are also known to tow more stable than a travel trailer.
Recreational Vehicles – These RVs, otherwise known as motorhomes, provide comfortable traveling conditions. They are a vehicle, as well as a camper. They come in various sizes, and are categorized into Class A, B and C motorhomes. In short, the Class A is the large, greyhound bus sized motorhome. The B is more like a van conversion with a heightened ceiling. The Class C is a large motorhome, but not so large that it requires a special frame like its cousin the Class A. The Class C is built on a pickup or van chassis and is much easier to maneuver than the Class A. Class C's are the most practical and popular.
