San Luis Obispo RV rentals are the ideal way to see the central California coastline … and lucky for the residents and visitors of this great town, Cruise America has a rental center in nearby Nipomo!
Located on the Central Coast of California, halfway between Los Angeles and San Diego, Saint Luis Obispo makes a great starting point for any vacation in the Golden State.
San Luis Obispo (SLO) is known to many as the "Happiest Place in America," which may be because of the many things to see and do in a climate that sees 300 days of sunshine a year. The average temperature hovers in the mid 70s, and to top it all off, it's only a few minutes from the beach! What could be better?
One of the top attractions in SLO is the Thursday Night Farmers Market. It all started in the early 1980s when the city started closing off Higuera Street to host a farmers market and barbecue. It didn't take long for it to become incredibly popular. At 6:00 pm the local farmers start setting up their goods for sale, and the local restaurants start preparing some of their best barbecue dishes. When the whistle blows at 6:30 pm, the vendors can start selling the fresh produce and other offerings. It's delicious produce, amazing barbecue and intriguing people watching … all in one spot. If you're not spending time shopping or eating, there are other great things to do, such as eating a picnic lunch by the creek, treating the kids to an adventure at the SLO Children's Museum, unwinding in a redwood hot tub at the Sycamore Mineral Springs, or taking a stroll along Poly Canyon at the campus of Cal Poly University.
About 15 miles south on the 101 from SLO, you will find the quaint coastal town of Avila Beach. There, you will enjoy one of the best climates on California's central coast. Even if you don't want to get into the water, just watching the beachcombers and surfers is worth the time you spend there. If you have the urge to lay out, keep in mind that the south side of the pier is usually where you will find the college crowd, while the north side is where most of the families go. There are plenty of wonderful RV parks in the area for your Cruise America RV.
In the valley between SLO and Avila Beach is See Canyon. The climate there makes for perfect conditions for delicious apples to grow. There are farms that will sell you delicious, fresh squeezed apple cider, as well as freshly picked fruit. Aside from fruits and goodies, there is an abundance of gorgeous countryside scenery to enjoy, as well as plenty of RV parks in the area. You can get to See Canyon Road by taking the Avila Road/San Luis bay Dr exit just south of SLO off of highway 101.
Take a short drive south toward Santa Barbara to visit the Santa Ynez Valley - home of delicious pinot noir and charming small towns, including the Dutch haven of Solvang. Or stay near San Luis Obispo and visit Pismo and Grover Beach. You can even head north to Carmel-by-the-Sea and Monterey, home of Cannery Row, made famous by writer John Steinbeck. And while you are there, don't miss the award-winning Monterey Bay Aquarium. With your San Luis Obispo RV rental from Cruise America, you'll find plenty to see and do anywhere in California.
